Tried & Tested: Valentine's Chocolates

After what felt like a never ending January, it’s finally February which means we’re on a countdown to Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re for or against the day, the one thing we can all agree on is that we love chocolate. We’ve reviewed some of the more unique chocolate options available for a sweet gift for anyone.

OMBAR Naturally Better Raw Cacao Bars

Strawberry Ombar

A new one to us, these bars are raw, organic, Ecuadorian cacao chocolates that are vegan and gluten free. So for those that have had a healthy January this is a good fit. We sampled a few different flavours including blueberry and acai which had a wonderful tang to offset the bitterness of the raw cacao. The cranberry and mandarin flavour was reminiscent of a dark chocolate orange, while the lemon and green tea was a surprisingly unique flavour that we found quite moreish. Our favourites were definitely the goji berry and strawberry mylk bars, perfect for hitting that sweet spot. Each bar is 35g and comes at the very reasonable price of £1.99 each. What we love about this from a gifting perspective is that you can pick and choose bars according to your preferences.

Paxton Floral Patterned Thins

Paxtons Signature Thins

Perhaps the prettiest chocolates we’ve seen, these chocolate thins feature known natural aphrodisiacs for that Valentine’s factor (think saffron and nutmeg).
We sampled a medium box of 12 which came in a nice little tin with a window to showcase the florals featured on the chocolates. Sadly, our tin was broken proving a bit of a task to get into the chocolates, but we persevered! We had to check on the website for which pattern was allocated to what flavour, the range does include a passion fruit and chilli combination it brought a sweet, sour and spicy game of roulette to the table.   At £15 for a box of 12 thins we found these to be pretty but pricey.

Lavolio Nutty Forest Collection

Lavolio Nutty Forest

These chocolate coated nuts are an absolute delight! A mix of almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios with a sugar shell for added texture. The pretty presentation tin is something to keep hold of and all the flavours are explained on the outside of the tin as well as on the card within
the tin. Our personal favourites were the Almond Amarettos and Pistachio Vaniglias. We were also sent a tin of the new minis available from the Arabian Nights collection, for those who enjoy the flavours of Turkish Delight. We thoroughly enjoyed these and although a little dear, they’re well worth the price at £12 for a 175g tin or sample more flavours with the Valentine’s hamper for £35.

Chococo Selection Box

hires-1760

When these arrived in the office they piqued everyone’s interest! With the cute sleeve saying ‘For My Valentine’ and the vibrant box that unveiled a myriad of little chocolate treasures. These have an incredibly creamy and rich texture with a delightful blend of milk and dark chocolate
enhanced with fruity flavours such as passionfruit, raspberry and rhubarb. For a gift we recommend the medium Valentine’s selection box with a chocolate heart gift set for only £17.95.
