Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

Restaurant ribs won’t compare after you’ve tried our slow cooker version. Cooked for a tantalising 9 hours, smothered in a generous sticky sauce – and meat so tender it falls off the bone. These slow cooker baby back ribs will not disappoint – or hang around for long.

Slow Cooker Barbeque Ribs

  • 350g bottle barbecue sauce
  • 2 pork stock cubes
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp peppercorns
  • 1½ kg baby back pork ribs
  • Approx. 1.5L water
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke (optional)

  1. Pour a generous glug of the barbecue sauce in the bowl of the slow cooker and add in the rest of the ingredients
  2. Add enough water to the bowl to cover the ribs, place the lid on the slow cooker and set to cook on low for around 9 hours
  3. Carefully remove the ribs from the slow cooker using a pair on tongs – at this point the meat should be very tender – and place on a baking tray lined with foil
  4. Use the rest of the barbecue sauce, mixed with the liquid smoke to baste the ribs, then cook for a further half an hour in a pre-heated oven at 220°C or cook straight on a barbecue. Cook the ribs until they are slightly crispy on the outside then dig in
