Does your garden need some TLC? If your flowers are wilting and your plants are drooping, you need our compost smoothie. In a matter of minutes, you’ll have a nutrient-rich fertiliser, ready to help make your garden gorgeous.
Beyond easy to make - and no waiting around for your food to ferment – our compost smoothie recipe is super simple.
Take all of your scrap veggies and peelings, add them to your blender with some water and blend. After that, mix in some used ground coffee – and you’re done. Homemade compost in 2 minutes flat.
When you’re looking for ingredients - the fresher the scraps the better – and it can be almost anything – wilting herbs, red peppers stubs, carrot peelings, going off cherry tomatoes or going off apples. Whatever you have to hand – bar things like sauces or leftover spaghetti – will work just fine.
Make sure to save your morning coffee grounds - the coffee will add extra nutrients to your compost smoothie. Ground coffee is rich in nitrogen, which is key for any top notch fertiliser – and worms love the stuff. They’ll happily mulch away your coffee, turning it into nutrient-rich, soil gold.
Once you’ve got your mix, add to your soil. Either place the compost directly on top of your soil or dig a small hole next to your plants, pour it in, cover the hole with the dug up soil, pat down and you’re done. Just think of all those delicious nutrients feeding your plants!
If you want to make composting a regular thing (and why wouldn’t you?) invest in a compost bin and keep your garden green all year round.
